New to Project Runway?

Project Runway is a competitive reality show for fashion designers. Each week, contestants are presented with a challenge, such as creating coordinating outfits for a mother and child or making an outfit purely from hardware materials. Designers have thirty minutes to sketch, thirty more to shop, and then about a day to create their unique looks. Then models parade their clothing down a runway and four judges, and sometimes a guest judge, critique and analyze each piece. The judges decide who will make the cut by looking for creativity, sewing expertise, and how well the garments fit each challenge. A winner is pronounced and he or she is given immunity, meaning that the designer can not be voted off from the next show. Then Heidi Klum announces who has been cut. This process continues until there is only one left standing at the end of the season. The winner will receive a cash prize and be featured in an issue of Marie Claire magazine. You can watch full epsiodes of past seasons at Lifetime.com.

Tim Gunn returns as the show's mentor and encouraging father figure.

What's Different About This Season?

Instead of starting with 16 designers at the beginning of the season, 20 designers will plead their case in front of Tim, Nina, Heidi, and Michael. After choosing the lucky 16, the competition begins with one of the toughest challenges ever.

Celebrity guest judges, including Christina Ricci, Kim Kardashian, Zoe Saldana, and Malin Akerman will spice up the show with their opinions and expertise.

Tim Gunn continues to mentor the designers, while Heid Klum, Michael Kors, and Nina Garcia are returning judges.

Super excited for another season! How do they keep finding so many designers?

Me too, Jenna! Good question; there must be a lot of talent out there that's willing to be stressed out on national TV; lol. Thanks for commenting!

UGGGH! Michael and Nina are back! They don't deserve to be in the presence of Heidi and Tim. All they care about is how they themselves are perceived, not the skills and talents of the contestants!

You could be right, but I believe all three judges add their personal critical eye and they work together well as a team. Thanks for sharing, Kimberly!

I see you like to write about fashion. If you ever need model pics for any of your aricles, I can help you out. I have a young girl I took under my wing. I'm like the neighborhood mom. In fact, she calls me mom. Anyways, she wants to be a model. Absolutely gorgeous girl. Looks like snow white. Takes your breath away when she walks into the room. I've shot a few pics of her, but I'm sure she would love the chance to be in one of your articles about fashion. She is 18 years. Let me know, if you can use her at any point. Thanks.

I do enjoy writing about fashion, but I don't think I'll be needing any models. I appreciate your offer, Debra. Tell her good luck for me and have a great day!

Re. the main pic, seems like hemlines have really gotten to be like a yo-yo recently; up, down, up.

f: True; it's about as bad as the stock market lately. lol Actually, people have said that hemlines are linked to a nation's economy, so it makes sense. Thanks for commenting!

ebower: so you mean, above the knee is bad, like with bad stock prices? or what

If I'm getting this right, mini-skirts are meant to correlate with a good economy, while longer skirts suggest a failing economy. Mid-length skirts are popular right now; maybe that reflects the confusion that is happening right now in the stock market. I'm not sure. If you want to know more about it, just 'google' it; I've found several articles about it after searching.

Ty.

Seems to me that mini- now is kind of almost standard for many ppl, at least, when in the 'mood', while micro- is what mini- was 45 years ago. (If this makes any sense...)

I understand what you are saying. Today's standard mini is definitely alot shorter then a lot of mini-skirts from yesteryear. Are you on facebook or twitter? I would like to thank you for your many comments by adding you or following you. If you don't want to put it on here then just email me: ebower07@yahoo.com Thanks!

Hi again; I think this is one the things that you write about which know little of!!

Hope your tutoring is going okay.

Hi, f. I was just thinking a few minutes ago that I should thank you. You are clearly my biggest fan and I wanted to let you know that I appreciate you.

Well, I'm happy to inform you; lol. I think Project Runway is entertaining, because I enjoy seeing what the designers come up with. I like to look at the clothing as art and I love anything that has to do with creativity.

Thank you; it's going well. I'm still learning a lot about my job and relearning a lot of math; haha. I hope you're doing well also.

Tiger Mom: I'm sorry that I mistyped; of course I mean to call you 'Tiger Mom' instead of 'Tiger Hub'. I hope you are doing well and thanks again for your comment. :)

PS: It seems to me also, re. the mini- thing, that it's no longer a matter of seasons, like in the 60s and 70s, when hems went up and down somewhat, but rather a person may choose to keep a range of items for use from mini-/micro- to floppy, as appropriate for the occasion.

It's no longer really a generational thing, either; fashion-conscious grandmothers might well keep a mini for use on some occasions, while their granddaughter of 18 might well strongly like a sort of Renaissance/Gothic/floppy look.
