No One: Chapter 9

By Ebower

Katy's eyes opened wide in astonishment as she realized Dr. Howser was worried. "What's wrong?" She sat up in bed and crossed her slender arms nervously.

"Your brain activity...," he muttered quietly while scurrying to the electronic machine. After peering at the charts displayed, he fiddled with some knobs for a few minutes until he seemed satisfied. "That outta do it," he said with a grin.

"Are you sure?" She replied meekly.

"Of course, my dear; just a slight adjustment." The doctor looked at her and they experienced eye contact for a split second. In his eyes, she was almost sure she could see something hidden there.

Shrugging off her doubts, Katy asked, "So, what's next?" She kept her tone casual; hoping for an answer.

He looked at her like a peacock with ruffled feathers. Then he straightened up and stated seriously, "Nothing that you need to know."

Her face quickly turned red, but it wasn't rosy. "I'm just supposed to lay here and let you keep electrical plugs...IN MY HEAD....as you do who knows what and tell me absolutely nothing!?!"

"Calm down, Katy." He was almost scared at her reaction, but she detected a hint of pity mixed in as well.

She let out a violent grunt of exasperation, but he ignored it. While she was distracted by her intense emotions, Dr. Howser pressed a button and a shiny, golden liquid poured out from the machine, through a tube connected to her arm, and into her bloodstream. Before she could comprehend what was happening, Katy suddenly felt heavy and weighed down; like she was thousands of leagues under the sea. She felt as if she was slowly drowning, trying to breathe and stay conscious underneath dark waters. She fought to see the familiar white room and the doctor as she grasped for air. She lost the battle as the fuzzy room spinned out of control and she became lost in the sightless recesses of her mind.

...wondering where the plot is all leading...

I have an overarching idea of how this story will end, but the details are still a little fuzzy even for me. That makes it exciting for me to continue in writing each chapter.

So you're still finalizing the plot, then....

(Thought maybe you were keeping everyone in suspense...)

Blessings.

Sounds like you're enjoying it a lot, anyway!

Haha Yes, I am! It's interesting to not know exactly where the plot will take my characters.

Thats a good way to write. If you nail yourself down to a certain ending you miss the story that your characters really want to tell.

Wow; you explained that so well! That's exactly what it's like. I couldn't have expressed it any better. :)

Maybe, just maybe, in the process you're trying to find out something about yourself, too?

I don't know if I'm trying to, but I think inevitably I will learn a lot about my inner self.

Maybe, trying or not, you will...

Thanks, lambservant! Your words are very encouraging. :) I've also written a chapter 10. I will add a link to it at the bottom. I hope to continue the series soon. I would be honored if you continue to read each chapter. Thanks for commenting!
