Field of Dreams: A Short Story
65I lay in an endless field of wheat grass. The ground was hard under my lean body, but the grass was soft and tickled teasingly around my small form, propelled by the strong wind. For a moment, I felt sure the grass had transformed into feathers and was carrying the Earth and I into the sky. Closing my eyes, we flew swiftly, diving to avoid the meteorites as we pummeled through space; shooting stars whizzed past us and sparkled in meticulous lines. Then the warm sun caressed me, causing me to open my eyes and stare at the source for a few seconds. My imaginative daydream had ceased, but I still was not sure I was living in reality. The day wore on; shadows danced across my face as clouds flew overhead creating abstract patterns of light and dark. My mouth was dry and my body ached with stiffness. I knew it had been a satisfying, quiet day, but I also knew that dreams never last forever. I arose gracefully and shook the dust off my jeans and T-shirt. Walking towards the pathway, I left foot marks on the grass; it was if I was cementing the memory of the day in my mind. I reached the path I had found earlier in the dawn of the day. Trudging reluctantly, I made my way up the hill to get to the lake that was one mile away. The shining waters beckoned me on the horizon; it's slowly lapping waters called out to me softly. Upon arrival, I didn't dive in foolishly, but, rather mechanically, I washed my face with the cool waters. For a minute, these were healing waters that drenched my thirsty, guilt-ridden soul. I kept my eye closed and just let it seep in; down to the inner parts of my heart and soul that even I couldn't reach. Feeling rejuvenated, I marched with vigor back to the pathway. Even when the path twisted abruptly into a rocky road, I put one foot in front of the over with a confident stride; all while I kept a steady, piercing gaze on the red ball of fire that hovered at the bottom of the sky. I journeyed on with determination for several miles and then gradually disappeared into the horizon.

Do you know the Prairies? here in Canada the Prairie Provinces are enormous; I'd like to visit them some day.
Alberta, Saskatchewan (where my wife has cousins) and Manitoba: huge wheatfields, etc.
Ebower: Mystifying? Well, good, because a lot of people find essentially flat land rather monotonous. But I think flat, expansive landscapes have a real character of their own.
Ebower, you are a creature of fantasy.. living in your imagination more than the real world, I think..I believe this because i am the same way; and can conjure up some fantastic alter realties..this is amazing in it's spectrum of sensation..just lovely. Up awesome beautiful and interesting
Why don't you do more short stories? it's a genre with a lot of potential.
Blessings.
We can all look forward to it! Blessings.
Sitting on the fields all day? Not exactly my own idea of a great story as we notice that the Lady or Man (Its not mentioned what sex our day dreamer belongs to) has no thoughts we can relate with, no problem she's running away from, no wishes, just sitting and facing the skies and dreaming her head off?
I think this story could be edited to be less insipid really.
Voted up and useful. and i really love the pictures too.
Beautiful fiction! Loved it:)

Lovely piece. I can't imagine spending a whole day lying down in a wheat field - my days are too full. You get a beautiful vote from me.
