100 Ways to Get Rid of Stress
80
1. Take a walk.
2. Relax in a long shower or bath.
3. Shopping! Just don't make a habit of it.
4. It's time to hang out with friends; either in person or by chatting online.
5. Chocolate, anyone? It always puts me in a good mood!
6. Get lost in a movie.
7. Catch up on your favorite TV show online.
8. Write a list, complete a few items, check them off, and then take a break. Repeat until you're done.
9. Look at photo albums. Good memories help you to remember happier times.
10. Vacation! Go to the beach, the mountains, or your neighborhood park. It can last weeks, days, or even minutes (mental vacation: picture yourself at a glorious place).
11. Read a book, magazine, hub, or a tweet. Anything that is entertaining and helps you to forget your troubles will do the trick.
12. Take a nap. If you don't have much time, take a power nap: a well-spent 30 minutes!
13. Make time for your hobby. Write, act, sing, paint, or whatever else you do. Just do it whole-heartedly.
14. Think about the male or female that you're interested in. Write them a love letter that you'll give them later or keep to yourself.
15. Dance to your favorite song. Do it with abandon; you know, like no one is watching.
16. Go to a spa or, if you can't afford it, make your bathroom into a spa. Just make sure to pamper yourself.
17. Take wacky pictures of yourself or of your friends. Not your thing? Take scenic pictures or make ordinary objects beautiful in some creative shots.
18. Sing karaoke. Sing in the shower. Sing in the car and wave to the person in the car beside you. Make sure he's enjoying the show.
19. Give yourself a makeover. Dye your hair or fix your makeup differently. Shop in your own closet to put unexpected pieces together. Take pictures of your new look. Post them online and write about how your feel about the makeover.
20. Vent to a friend or family member. Make sure it's someone you can trust so you can really let it all out.
21. It's time to exercise! Your body creates endorphins when you do. Run, jog, bike, swim, jump, kick, skip, walk, dance, or play sports. Just make sure you're moving.
22. Smile; it's guaranteed to make you feel happier.
23. Go to your favorite restaurant. Order your favorite or try something new.
24. Make funny faces in the mirror. Laugh at yourself and how silly you are!
25. Think about another time you've been stressed. Did everything turn out alright? Even if it didn't, was it that important? See, you'll live through it.
26. Write down what's making you feel stressful. Put it through a shredder, cut it with scissors, burn it, throw it in the garbage can, or just crumple it up. There now, doesn't that make you feel better?
27. Think about what you're looking forward to next. It could be some time with a loved one, a new movie coming out, or a sale at your favorite store. If school or work is making you stressed, make a goal to do something productive before the next exciting event.
28. Drink your favorite drink. Drink it slow or drink it fast; just enjoy it (my favorite is Dr. Pepper).
29. Paint something beautiful or interesting. Painting always helps me to relax as I focus on each stroke.
30. Take a chill pill; literally. If stress is holding you back from life, talk to a doctor about ways to help deal with it. One solution is to take some anxiety medicine for awhile.
32. Laugh! Watch a funny movie or sitcom. Hang out with a funny dude. Look up stupid videos on YouTube. Whatever makes you LOL will work!
33. Meditate. No, you don't have to get in a weird position. Just focus on one thing or one person. Breathe in and out deeply and slowly.
34. Take a drive to help you unwind. Blast the tunes or just coast in silence.
35. Think of ways you've been successful in the past. Dig up old report cards, trophies, or other awards. Pat yourself on the back.
36. Ask people how they got through a stressful time. Write it down for future use; better yet, interview people and make a video out of it.
37. Pray. Give God all of your troubles.
38. Lay in a hammock (or just on a couch or bed). Slowly think about making each part of your body immobile. Then gradually relax each muscle.
39. Kiss or hug someone. Even better: have someone kiss or hug you.
40. Picture yourself in 5 to 10 years. Think about what really matters and what your ultimate goals are. How will you reach them? What will be important to you then?
41. Think about the worst possible situation related to your source of stress. Now, how bad could that really be? Not that bad, huh? See, you'll be fine.
42. Picture yourself winning a million dollars. Close your eyes and really live in the moment. Did your heart rate go up and is there a stupid grin on your face? Perfect!
43. Think about those that are less fortunate then you. Your problems become minute when you picture the overall problems of this world.
44. Volunteer. Help someone else in need. Not only will you benefit others, but you will also be blessed in the process.
45. Just take a break! Seriously, you don't have to be Mr. or Miss Perfectionist and 'win' all the time. Nobody will be disappointed if you take a breather. In fact, they'll be glad to know you're a human and not a robot!
46. Brush your hair slowly or let someone else brush it for you. That's feels good, doesn't it?
47. Play video games! Get some friends together for a tournament or just beat that challenging level by yourself.
48. Close your eyes and put your ear up to a seashell. Picture the waves on a sandy beach as you listen.
49. Put on your PJ's! If that's not allowed for school or work at the time, just wear your most comfortable clothing.
50. Wear your favorite or most attractive outfit. When you're confident, you're less stressed!
51. Hire a maid for the day or the weekend. This will leave you time to get caught up with other things.
52. Make sure to get enough sleep. Anywhere from 6 to 8 hours or more will help you in facing the day with more energy.
53. Make an inspiration board. Include motivating quotes, pictures of loved ones, and scenic photos that make you smile.
54. Laugh for no reason. That's right; you don't have to have a purpose. It still produces the same effect and will have you giggling over and over in no time.
55. Write a letter or send a card to yourself. Include an inspiring quote or an encouraging saying. You might receive it right when you need it!
56. Get a pet or a plant. Nurturing something or taking care of an animal will help you get the focus off of yourself. Pets will definitely make you smile with their loyal, lovable ways.
57. Be a thrill-seeker. Ride a roller-coaster, bungee off a bridge, go sky diving, or ride in a motorcycle. Finding your wild side will lead to exhilarating results.
58. Love yourself. Write a list of things that you like about yourself. Everyone has flaws, but all humans have some excellent attributes and talents as well.
59. Be a kid again. Get on swings at a local park. Relive your childhood with old toys you forgot you had. Look up old TV shows on YouTube that you loved in your younger years.
60. Peruse the Internet aimlessly (I recommend stumbleupon.com). No, you are not allowed to search for anything for school or work.
61. Write a list of your flaws, failures, or worries. Destroy it (see number 26) or tie it to a balloon. Wave goodbye to negativity as it floats away.
62. People that are hurtful or cause you stress shouldn't be near you. Sometimes you have to let go of bad friends in order to gain better friends. Don't spend time with people that don't encourage and support you.
63. Log off of all social media, turn off the computer and cell phone, and just chill; away from technology. Now, that's a vacation!
64. Clean your office or house. Mess and disorganization makes anyone stressful. Once it's finished, you have a beautiful place to work or relax in.
65. If you have kids, get a babysitter, so you and your special someone can take a break and spend some time together.
66. Working on a big project for school or work? Don't do it all at once. Work for an hour and then take a break. Give yourself an award when you're all done: ice cream, purchase, movie, etc.
67. Stressed about money? Go on a hunt for loose change. Change your budget: buy off-brands, brew your own coffee, or stop eating out. Look for a higher-paying job or ask for a raise. Sell possessions at a garage sale or on eBay. Do something proactive about your money situation.
68. Are marriage or other relationship problems getting you down? Get help from a counselor. Spend time actively working on the relationship. Read books on the subject. Discuss how to make it better for the other person.
69. Listen to relaxing music or sounds. These could be beach, rain forest, storm or rain sounds. Listen to classical, piano, or ambient music.
70. Get out in the sun. This could be on the beach or in your backyard (make sure to wear sunblock). The sun gives you vitamins that your body needs in order to be healthy and produce feelings of happiness.
71. Eat and drink what's good for you. When you eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and lean meat, you'll be healthy. When you're healthy, you'll feel good and most likely look good, too. Hello, confidence! Of course, don't forget to drink plenty of water; it'll help your digestive system and your skin.
72. Have a big presentation or speech coming up? Picture everyone in their underwear; just kidding! Practice by yourself in front of a mirror. Then practice in front of friends and family. Have them tell you what you need to work on. Practice again by yourself. Then just do your best; I know you'll do great!
73. "Begin, the rest is easy." I'm not sure who originally said this, but it's so true. Instead of thinking about what you have to do, just get going. It won't be as bad as you think; I promise.
74. If you can, share some of your load. Give friends and relatives tasks to do that will lessen the strain on your back.
75. Picture being famous. Everyone loves you and hates you simultaneously. You have no privacy or freedom. They're just waiting for you to make a mistake or get fat. Phew! Now remember who you really are. It's not so bad after all.
76. No caffeine or energy drinks (at least for awhile). They may give you speed and focus, but they can increase your stress level. It's better to drink water or juice and feel calmer.
77. Tea (especially chamomile) can help you feel more calm. It will also help you to slow down and enjoy a moment to yourself.
78. Can't sleep? Write down all you have to do the next day and then drink some hot milk. You'll be slumbering soon.
79. Write in a journal expressing your feelings or compose an email and send it to yourself (make sure it's your email; you don't want to be embarrassed!).
80. Destroy something, but think before acting (don't injure yourself or other people; don't harm expensive objects or other's belongings; don't use knives and use fire with caution [if you're 18 or older]). Throwing food over a balcony or ripping paper are safe ideas.
81. Scream! Let it all out before you take it out on someone else. Don't want to disturb other people? Scream into your pillow.
82. Stressed over an ex or a divorce? Get rid of all memorable items and spend a lot of quality time with supportive people.
83. Spend a day in someone else's shoes or read a book about a person's life. It's most likely that you'll be happy to get back to your own.
84. Unemployed? Be productive. Cold call companies and businesses. Go in person to hand in resumes and applications. Ask everyone you know to keep a look out for job possibilities. Do what you can do, but learn to wait. Put yourself out there; the right job will come along at the right time.
85. Hug yourself. Hug a stuffed animal. Hug a tree. Just hug it out!
86. Check into a hotel for a night or the entire weekend. Sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Relax in front of the TV. Order room service. Treat yourself and you'll begin to have fun in your mini-vacation.
87. Give money to charity. Giving makes people happy, because it requires thinking of someone other than yourself.
88. Take all your personal days (or at least some of them); they are there for a reason.
89. Let one day of the weekend (or off day) be your do nothing day. Stay in bed. Watch marathons on TV or catch up on your reading.
90. Don't let the big picture overwhelm you. Break a project into smaller tasks. Conquer them one at a time.
91. Do something crazy or unexpected (for you). Take a spontaneous road trip or chop all your hair off.
92. Walk down memory lane. Visit your old school, the house you grew up in, or where you and your significant other had your first date.
93. Don't shcedule or plan every second of the day; only what's essential. Don't freak out if you're late for an event either. It's not the end of the world; regroup and then enjoy the rest of your day.
94. Change it up. Try new things: restaurants, friends, clothes, dance, hobbies, trends, music, etc. You get the idea.
95. Tell the people you care for that you love and appreciate them. Smile when they say it back.
96. Tell your boss or teacher and your colleagues or fellow students that they are doing an excellent job. Then tell them specifically why they are awesome at what they do. This is a great way to boost morale and make your environment more positive.
97. When you're not at work or school, think like a tropical island native. For them, life moves a little slower and it doesn't matter if you're late.
98. When you're eating (and you have the time), savor each morsel. Give your tongue enough time to enjoy each flavor.
99. Dance in the rain; splash in puddles. Throw caution and inhibition to the wind...er...rain (but, of course, be wary of lightning).
100. Throughout your busy day, stop for a few minutes during each break. Let fear, anxiety, and stress run through your body in full force. Clench every muscle and then release slowly with a sigh (mentally and emotionally 'let go' of all your problems and troubles.)
*Bonus* Think like a turtle. See the first picture at the beginning. :)

I read half of this from top to bottom and the other half from bottom to top. It relieved some stress.
Excellent suggestions! I like #30 but strongly believe in exercise and stretching to reduce stress AND laughter!!! I'll attempt #80 as long as I don't have to clean up the mess! I like your hub ideas and will read more when I have more time to relax :) Voted UP and a follow!
Excellent Hub !Voted up :) Really useful .
Number 2,4,23,50,64 works best for me :D
Great stuff! Take a drive and blast the tunes is what I always love to do, and hey, promise me and make it our "secret", I love speeding actually at most of my "down" hours...Love your dance in the rain...splash in puddles...I always wanted to try it out but always give up when I think of the lightning...LOL...Ebower, you really listed out great ways to get rid of our stress, thanks for your sharing...
Ebower:
Did you hear of the lady who went to the doctor and said: I don't think I suffer from stress, but I think I'm a carrier...(?)
EBower: It often raises a smile, anyway.
Useful tips to beat stress, great hub.
There's one thing I don't think you mentioned as an antidote to stress, above, and it's something that is a theme in some of your poetry:
Take deep breaths. (It can often work wonders.)
Blessings.
Sorry; did I miss it? it's quite a long article, anyway.
The sun, whether backyard or beach, is a good thing, too.
Also, especially, prayerful Bible reading.
Blessings.
Well, I did read it, but must have missed it.
Lots of good info there. (Only the lady readers are likely to get the advised makeover, though.) :)
YW.
Actually the guys are still more likely to get jewelry such as earrings, rather than a makeover. I think you may have said your brothers did, a bit.
Blessings.
Sorry, I meant that you said some place that they got pierced jewelry of some description, didn't they.
Blessings.
Or was it lip or mouth, you may have said, rather than ears.
(Whatever...)
Blessings.
I guess he did his own thing.
Like you do yours. :)
Blessings.
You mean that, though both of you are rather independent, you might not have gotten some of his mods, maybe? lol :)
Blessings.
I love this list! Everyone needs reminding to stop and take a breath. These days people are always so busy that they forget to stop and enjoy life sometimes.
I love number 39. I definitely ask my fiance for a hug every time I feel stressed.
Love it, wish I could do all 100 everyday LOL.. but seriously I find cleaning to be very relaxing I don't know what it is. maybe the sense of accomplishment when you are done and kind admire your hard work?
All useful tips Ebower :) Personally I eat chocolates and go to the spa for facial when I feel really low.
Well, chocolates may work for some ppl, but they have an adverse effect on waistlines for others... :)
Well...some ppl have more of a flair for exercise than others ...
Blessings.
Hmm ... :)
(Smile)
Very very useful tips....all very handy and doable....in my view point during stress period one should not forget that they are not the only one in this world in these situations and should start thinking of others who are in more distressed situations than they are right now....and should keep trying to get out of present distressed time because despondency is a sin and killing.....thanks.
I guess writing can decrease stress, too...
Blessings.
I'm sure it can!
Blessings.
i like #81 i was wondering if i was the only one that yelled when stressed...recently i screamed so loud that my throat is itchy now it helped all the stressed and anger i was feeling...good to know im not the only one
I guess screaming is a bit like wrestling; like, the performance is all part of it. (In some ways, at least.)
Blessings.
I love number 5. I can agree chocolate always makes me happy!
Ebower, great hub!
PS: looking at this again, sleep is an important issue, often. As ppl get older they can tire more easily! (not that you would know a lot about this, just yet... ) Blessings.
This is true. Mind you, tiring easily, and sleep needs, and the lack of sleep, are often quite distinct issues. Blessings.
Hi ebower! I responded months ago but I'm here to re-read! Terrific tips!! I hope you are doing well:)
Sunshine625: Yes, Ebower is a thoughtful writer, isn't she.
Awesome tips, especially around this time of year. I'll be sharing you hub with my followers!
What a brilliant hub, a definite for an up up and away.
Take care and I look forward to reading many more by you.
I wish you a great day.
Eddy.
Chocolate!! Yes! :)
Ebower: oh, well, it's good you're not too self-conscious about such matters, then.
Blessings.
why is there nothing here about smoking a pipe (tobacco) or drinking a beer? A lot of good tips though. I use a lot of these. Bravo
